Gender-Affirming Care
The broad range of medical, surgical, mental health, and social services that support transgender and non-binary people in living as their true gender. Gender-affirming care is not one thing — it's a personalized set of services chosen by the individual with their providers.
Gender-affirming care includes: hormone therapy (HRT), puberty blockers for adolescents, surgeries, voice training, mental health support, and social transition (name, pronouns, documents). It is endorsed by the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the World Health Organization, and virtually every major medical body.
Affirming care saves lives: trans youth with supportive families and access to care have dramatically lower rates of depression and suicide attempts. Recent restrictions on this care in several US states and elsewhere have been condemned by medical associations as harmful and not evidence-based.
