The Umbrella Manifesto: Why We're Building This
Why We're Building This
Every queer person knows the routine. Grindr for hookups. Reddit for answers. Discord for community. Instagram for visibility. TikTok for validation. We scatter ourselves across a dozen platforms, none of them built for us, none of them safe, none of them seeing us as whole people.
This is exhausting. This is unsustainable. And for queer teenagers, people in hostile countries, people still questioning — this fragmentation means there is nowhere to go that feels like home.
What Umbrella.lgbt Is
Umbrella.lgbt is the everything queer app. Not a dating app with a community tab bolted on. Not a social feed optimized for engagement. A platform built from the ground up for the full spectrum of LGBTQ+ life:
- Community — Real groups organizing real meetups. Found family, not algorithms.
- Meet — Browse queer people near you. No swipes, no matches, just people.
- Q&A — Answers to the questions queer people actually google. Indexed. Public. Permanent.
- Profiles — Customizable, expressive, yours. Like MySpace understood identity and Instagram forgot.
What Umbrella.lgbt Is Not
- Not a hookup app. Dating can happen organically. It will never be the core.
- Not algorithm-driven. Your feed is your communities and your friends, chronologically.
- Not harvesting your data. No trackers. No data sold. End-to-end encrypted DMs.
- Not for the algorithm. It's for you.
Who We're Building For
Everyone under the umbrella. Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, intersex, asexual, aromantic, questioning, two-spirit — and anyone who doesn't fit neatly into a label. If other platforms have made you feel like you don't belong, you belong here.
We are especially building for people who currently have nowhere:
- Queer teenagers who can't be on dating apps
- People in countries where being out is dangerous
- People still figuring out their identity
- Queer elders isolated from community
- Trans and non-binary people underserved by every existing platform
When
Umbrella.lgbt launches in 2026. This site is our pre-launch home. We're building in public. What you see here will grow into the full platform over the coming months.

This is just the beginning. There's room under the umbrella.
